Tony PrestiAzusa High 1968
In band from 1964 to 1968
I was in: Marching Band,
Other activities:
Instrument(s): Snare Drum
I Still play my instrument
I bored Julie in an Email...I've always played since leaving Azusa. I studied with some great teachers including Murray Spivak in Hollywood, and Chuck Flores. I played in rock groups, including the Volume Five and the popular Soundproof Cookie Jar while in High School. After the group broke up in 1969, I moved to Detroit where I played with Justice Colt, 1970-1971, (search Justice Colt, 1970-1971...Tony Presti) After returning to LA, I played with a group called Von Ryans Express in New York as the opening act for Little Anthony and the Imperials. I went into the Air Force in 1975, and played in the drum and buggle corps. while in the service I would go to Jazz Clubs while off duty and play with local groups, including the Tacoma Community college Big Band. After getting out of the service I went to college in Detroit and played with the Macomb College Big Band, and began playing gigs in and around the Detroit area, including "the bird of paradise lounge" in Ann Arbor Michigan. I've continued to play and teach, and currently play Thursday Nights at "Colombo's Italian Restaraunt" in Eagle Rock California. I'd love to see some of the old guys...lol

National City...winning sweepstakes...dinner at the Bahia. Water Baloons...laughing till your gut ached. Getting sent outside to work on drum cadences. JAmming with the USC Band! Richard Armenta boarding the band bus....and saying, "May I have your attention please"? then he simply said thank you...and sat down! I was always in the last row...right end, I could see the whole band. I remember the absolute dedication, the remarkable precision, and perfect diagonals. I remember these people who were watching our band pass, and hearing them say, "Look at the way that kid is sticking his chest out...they really think their something" I remember sticking it out farther and thinking, "we're not just something, we're the best"! and this has been something I've never forgotten and live by...thanks to that experience.
